Why a Multi-Day Wedding Might be Right for You

FILED IN: Advice, Wedding

Something I love about weddings today is the freedom couples have to make their celebration their own. From taking part in as many or as few traditions as they want, to including personal details throughout their celebration, there’s no shortage of unique ways for couples to make their wedding their own. One way of doing this is something I’ve actually talked about on the blog before, multi-day weddings! In my previous article I talked a bit about how to plan one of these celebrations, but what exactly is the appeal of doing one? That’s what we’re here to take a look at today.

The Appeals of a Multi Day Wedding

Minimize Your Stress

The first point I want to make when talking about the appeal of multi-day weddings is how they can alleviate a LOT of the stress of weddings & the planning process. Worried about being able to fit everything you want into your wedding day? Splitting up the celebration across multiple days ensures you can do it all! Does the idea of having both your ceremony & reception all on the same day sound like too much to handle? Separate the two so that you can truly enjoy every part of your wedding day! Your wedding is meant to be one of the happiest times of your lives, not something you stress over endlessly. If you need to break things up a bit to make sure you love every part of your celebration you should go for it!

More Adventure

Splitting up your wedding day into a multi-day celebration gives you the chance to make things a bit more adventurous as well! With a large wedding you’re pretty limited to the ceremony & reception spaces you can book that will be able to fit all of your guests. If you do a multi-day wedding on the other hand you can really get creative here! An example of this is choosing to do a destination wedding ceremony with just your closest friends & family in attendance somewhere adventurous, like Puerto Rico for instance. Then at a later date have a reception close to home where everyone can make it & is able to celebrate at your side.

The Best of Both Worlds

A multi-day wedding can really give you the best of both worlds when it comes to creating a wedding that’s both intimate & includes all your loved ones. Using the example above again, a destination ceremony can be with your closest friends & family, or just the two of you. This allows for you two to really share this amazing moment with one another. It’s a beautiful, intimate celebration of your love, & something the two of you will cherish forever. Your reception can then be a party of epic proportions, one where the planning is much less stressful, but the event itself is just as exciting for everyone involved. All your favorite people will be there & you’ll be able to have the time of your lives singing, dancing, & partying with them!

More Time for Portraits

Another fantastic benefit of multi-day weddings is that you’ll have more time & freedom when it comes to your portrait photos. Between newlywed, wedding party, & family photos, there are a LOT of portraits that are taken on a wedding day. Combine that with getting ready, a ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, & all the moments in between, & it’s pretty easy to see how having some extra time for portrait photos can be a lifesaver. This is yet another area where having a multi-day wedding can lead to less stress on your wedding day. With more time to work with you can actually take your time & get every portrait photo you like, & all the while you won’t be worried about missing any of the other festivities you have planned!

You Can Be Present for Every Moment

Speaking of the festivities of your wedding day, having a multi-day celebration means that you can actually take part in all of them! For a single day wedding it is incredibly common for a couple to miss part or all of their cocktail hour due to the time needed to take portrait photos. This means they’ll have to get right into their reception, & by extension miss out on a lot of socializing with their loved ones during cocktail hour. With a multi-day wedding you have the time & freedom to actually be present for every moment of your wedding, & I don’t just mean physically! Weddings tend to FLY by, no matter how much time you plan into your day. With a multi-day wedding though you can take things slower, & actually take in all the big & small moments that make up your day.

There’s More Flexibility

The final point I want to make on why you should consider having a multi-day wedding all comes down to flexibility. Couples today have SO much freedom when it comes to creating the wedding day of their dreams, so much so that it doesn’t need to be just a singular day. Celebrating your wedding across multiple days gives you a ton of flexibility with how you lay out your celebration.

As an example, if you can’t decide on whether or not to have an intimate reception or not you can instead opt for both! You can choose to have an intimate wedding ceremony with your closest friends & family present with an intimate dinner/reception afterwards with that same smaller group. Then at a later date you can choose to have a larger reception, one where EVERYONE is able to celebrate with you. Multi-day weddings give you SO much freedom & flexibility to create your own wedding experience, which is why I’m such a huge fan of them & love recommending them to couples.

Should You Have a Multi-Day Wedding?

Now that we know the appeal of multi-day weddings, is having one right for you? Ultimately that choice is yours to make, as only you truly know what your dream wedding entails! This article isn’t meant to tell you whether or not to have a multi-day wedding, but instead to show you the positives of them so that you can make your decision considering ALL the options! Talk with your partner about what you both envision your wedding to look like & whether or not having a multi-day wedding will help you to bring that vision to life!
