Isabelle & Will’s anniversary session at the Indiana Dunes National Park was nothing short of perfect. These two met up with myself & another photographer friend for a sunrise session on the lakefront to spend some time being creative & trying out some new photography methods & posing prompts.

Isabelle & Will were really down for anything which made the session super fun & collaborative. We decided to have their session right at the beginning of March so that the lakefront ice caps were still on the lake shore. The session honestly looked like we were in another country or another planet.

Why You Might Want a Winter Session
Let’s be real, the Midwest weather can be…unpredictable to say the least. & while it might be ideal to just have sessions throughout the summer, honestly winter photos are some of my favorites! Not only are they just beautiful in terms of colors & backdrops but in a lot of cases, especially at scenic outdoor locations, you get the space all to yourself which makes for such a great photo experience.
Get Some Cute Outerwear
For Isabelle & Will’s session right on the lakefront at Indiana Dunes National park, we knew it was going to be on the colder side. Isabelle & Will came prepared & had their formal winter wear on & some good boots. Winter wear gives such a different feel compared to clothes that you’d typically wear during the warmer months, & it gives you a chance to show off your favorite winter outfits.
Keep Your Feet Warm
Speaking of boots, throughout the winter, especially out on a lakefront couples session, it’s SO important to have warm shoes for your session. This can really make or break your time with your photographer & was a game changer for Isabelle & Will’s session at the Indiana Dunes. If you have other shoes you want to wear for photos that aren’t as warm, bring them with you & change into them for short stretches. For the most part though you will want to keep your feet as warm as possible throughout the session.
Even with the cold Isabelle & Will had such an amazing anniversary session at the Indiana Dunes. Being able to experiment with these two was seriously so much fun & an awesome experience all around.
